Plugins 101

Connect Gmail, Calendar, Drive, and Notion — and learn @-mentions and the skills each plugin bundles.

Plugins connect Work to the apps where your job actually happens — a directory of 1,400+ covering email, calendars, docs, CRMs, and project tools. Each plugin bundles skills (pre-built instruction sets for common jobs: some ship with dozens), and once installed, the agent picks the right plugin automatically — or you force one with an @-mention, like @Notion. Riley calls Gmail "the most important one," and the home screen agrees: Work generates task suggestions from your connected calendar, email, and Slack.

OpenAI's official introduction to the plugin system you're about to set up.

Steps · 0 / 4 done
  1. Install your first plugin

Profile → Settings → Plugins → Browse. Start with Gmail (or your calendar). One tap, sign in, review the permissions, Allow.

VerifyThe plugin shows as installed; its page lists the skills it bundles.
  2. Run a read-only task first

Calibrate with a task that can't send anything.

    prompt
Go through my email and make a quick table of everyone who's reached out about invoices this month: name, company, what they asked, date.
VerifyA correct table, and nothing was sent from your account.
  3. Try an @-mention

Force a specific plugin when the target matters.

    prompt
@Notion — add three ideas to my Content Ideas page: [your ideas]. Link me to the page when done.
VerifyThe Notion page updated; the agent returned a link.
  4. Graduate to draft-then-confirm

For outbound actions, keep the confirmation step: have it draft, review, then explicitly say send.

    prompt
Draft a reply to Emily's latest email saying the report will be ready by 3pm. Show me the draft — don't send until I say so.
VerifyYou reviewed the draft before anything left your account.
