The paid product earns its keep in teams (billable rates, approvals, integrations), but an individual tracking their own hours can replace it in a sitting and get exactly the reports they actually read.
Build a personal time tracker. Core: a big start/stop timer with a description field and a project selector (projects have a name and color). Entries land in a log grouped by day, inline-editable (times, project, description), with manual add for forgotten blocks. Reports page: this week and this month, total hours per project with a horizontal bar chart, and CSV export. Add keyboard shortcuts (space to start/stop, N for new entry) and a subtle favicon change while the timer runs. Next.js + hosted Postgres, deployable to Vercel.
