The gap is the same too — Payhip handles EU VAT for digital goods, runs affiliates and coupons, and embeds anywhere with a drop-in button, all of which you would rebuild or forgo. You can sell your files without it; you would just be signing up to manage your own tax and losing the built-in affiliate and discount machinery.
