Can I vibe code Gumroad?
Sell digital products, memberships, and downloads with one link.
For a solo creator selling a few digital products, the buildable version is real: a product page, Stripe Checkout, and a secure download link after payment is a weekend, and it works. Where Gumroad earns its cut is the parts you skip — it acts as merchant of record, handling global sales tax and VAT so you never register in another country, and it runs license keys, affiliates, and a bit of discovery. A personal Gumroad is genuinely a kinda: you can sell, you just take on your own tax handling and lose the marketplace.
Build a personal digital-product store (a Gumroad alternative) for my own products. Let me create products with a name, price, description, cover image, and an uploaded file, each with its own shareable product page. Take payment with Stripe Checkout, and on the payment-success webhook, generate a signed, time-limited download URL and email it to the buyer. Add a password-protected dashboard listing sales and revenue with CSV export. Use Next.js App Router with a hosted Postgres and object storage for files, deployable to Vercel. Be explicit in the README that you are not a merchant of record: enabling Stripe Tax helps, but global VAT and sales-tax registration and remittance are your responsibility, unlike Gumroad.
A digital-product checkout that takes payment via Stripe and delivers a secure, expiring download link, with a simple sales dashboard.
- Merchant-of-record status — Gumroad handles global sales tax and VAT; you would not
- Built-in affiliates, license keys, and membership billing
- Any discovery from Gumroad's marketplace and audience
- PDF stamping, rentals, and pay-what-you-want out of the box
- Refund and chargeback handling wrapped up for you
The checkout is easy; being the merchant of record is not. Gumroad takes on the legal burden of collecting and remitting sales tax worldwide, plus refunds and affiliates, for a flat cut. Creators who do not want to become part-time tax accountants happily pay it.
A prompt is the first move, not the whole game. Course 01 teaches you to take a prompt like this one to a shipped, working app — reviewing, correcting, and steering the agent the whole way.
